One of our latest redesign projects, was one that my business affiliate, Shelley Ollinger, and I worked on together. Shelley is a very talented certified redesign and staging specialist, and her creativity is very evident. I first met her when I moved to Kelowna a year and a half ago, and we became instant friends. We have since worked on projects together, including this latest one, her client, Bosha and Jamie.
Bosha and Jamie were frustrated with the lack of "homeyness" they felt in their home. The living/dining area felt like one long room, with nothing to define the dining area from the living room. They wanted a much more intimate setting to entertain in, while keeping the area functional for their four children to enjoy as well.
The TV was placed on an entertainment unit. Artwork and accessories were placed on the fireplace to create the main focal point in the room. The furniture was visually heavy and dark, so one of the sofas was moved to the basement, and replaced with two neutral beige sitting chairs placed in closer proximity to the fireplace and sofa, creating a much more intimate conversation area for company. The other sofa was placed at an angle, allowing the room to serve as the "family" room, complete with TV for the entire family to enjoy together. Cushions were added to provide the pop of color.
To better define the dining area, the buffet was moved against the back of the leather couch. An area rug was placed underneath the buffet, eliminating the large "skating rink" look to the dining room. The table was placed on an angle, artwork hung, and accessories placed, creating a warm and relaxing area for the family to dine and interact together.
The master bedroom required a headboard for the king size bed. Spotting a beautiful handmade quilt on the edge of the chair, Shelley had the inspiration to turn it into a headboard. Another lamp was added to flank the other side of the bed, and accessories were placed, creating a beautiful relaxing sanctuary that Bosha and Jamie could unwind in after a long day.
